Making Your First Search

The search bar is your gateway to breach intelligence. ReconX supports several types of searches, and the platform automatically detects what you're looking for based on your input.

Step 1: Enter Your Query

Click on the search bar at the top of the page and type what you want to find. Here are some examples:

  • [email protected] - Search for a specific email address
  • @company.com - Find all emails from a domain
  • 192.168.1.100 - Search for a specific IP address
  • *.company.com - Wildcard search for subdomains

Step 2: Review Your Results

After pressing Enter or clicking the search button, results will appear showing:

  • Result cards - Each card represents a file or record containing your search term
  • Source information - Where the data came from (stealer log, database dump, etc.)
  • Date information - When the breach occurred or was indexed
  • Extracted data - Quick view of emails, URLs, and other data found in the file

Step 3: View the Details

Click on any result card to see the full details. The detail view shows you:

  • Content tab - The actual file contents with your search term highlighted
  • Metadata tab - File information like path, size, and timestamps
  • Extracted data tabs - Organized lists of emails, URLs, domains, IPs, and other sensitive data found
  • Tree view - If the source was an archive, you can see the directory structure

Search Tips for Beginners

Here are some tips to get better results:

  • Be specific - Searching for [email protected] is better than just john
  • Use domain searches - If you're checking for company exposure, search @yourcompany.com
  • Try variations - People often use different email formats, so try both john.doe@ and jdoe@
  • Check the filters - Use date and source filters to narrow down results to specific time periods or breach types

Understanding Result Counts

The number of results you see depends on your subscription plan:

  • Free plan - Limited searches per day, basic result details
  • Paid plans - Higher limits, full content access, and download capabilities

Even on the free plan, you can get valuable insights about whether your credentials have been exposed. Upgrade when you need to view full content or perform more searches.

What To Do If You Find Your Data

If you discover your credentials in a breach:

  1. Change passwords immediately - Especially if the password is still in use
  2. Enable 2FA everywhere - Add two-factor authentication to important accounts
  3. Check for reuse - Search for the same password (or its hash) to see if it appears elsewhere
  4. Monitor going forward - Set up regular searches for your email or domain
